Tennis To Face Cleveland State After Two-Week Break
February 19 | Women's Tennis
AKRON, Ohio - After a two-week break from
competition, the University of Akron tennis team returns to the
court on Saturday when it takes a short trip north to face
Cleveland State at 1 p.m. ET. The contest will be held at Rivers Oaks Tennis Club in Cleveland.
The Zips, who are 20-3 all-time versus the Vikings, look to
improve on their 5-0 dual-match record and best start to a season
since the 1991-92 team opened 8-0. UA topped CSU 5-2 last season at
the Zips' indoor venue of LaTuchie Tennis Center (on Feb. 13,
2009).
"We're excited to get back on the court for a match," fourth-year
Akron head coach Jeffrey Wyshner said. "Having
a two-week gap was good because it gave us some time to work on
some things that we learned needed to be improved during our tough
early-season stretch. I know the players are excited to see how
well they can carry their improved skills from practice into
competition."
Akron will play on the road for the fifth time this season when it
meets up with Cleveland State. On its list of defeated foes thus
far in 2010 are a pair of Big Ten opponents, defeating Michigan
State 6-1 (Jan. 22) and Penn State 5-2 (Jan. 29) on the road, to go
with a 6-1 home victory over Xavier (Jan. 31) and away decisions
versus Eastern Kentucky (7-0 on Feb. 6) and Louisville (4-3 on Feb.
7). The win over Michigan State was the program's first ever over a
Big Ten opponent.
After Saturday, the Zips' next date of competition comes at home on
March 6, when they face Cincinnati (10 a.m.) and IUPUI (2:30 p.m.)
at LaTuchie Tennis Center in nearby Stow, Ohio.
