Zips Tip Off Basketball Season with Successful Halloween Hoops Event

On Friday, Oct. 29, the University of Akron men's and women's
basketball teams hosted a free Halloween Hoops event inside James
A. Rhodes Arena. More than 800 people, including 300-some children
dressed in their Halloween outfits, attended the event, which
featured numerous activities, games and free candy.
Highlighting the festivities was a costume contest in which
participants paraded around the basketball floor and a panel of
judges -- comprised of Akron men's and women's basketball
student-athletes and coaches -- selected the winners.
The evening concluded with an autograph session featuring both
teams, their respective coaches and, of course, Zippy.
Both Zips squads open their seasons this week with home exhibition
contests. The men face John Carroll at 7 p.m. Thursday while the
women take the court against Ashland at 2 p.m. Saturday.
