November 01 | Men's Basketball
- The University of Akron Department of Athletics, in conjunction with the Z-Fund and the University's Alumni Association, announced on Tuesday two travel packages available to fans of the Zips men's basketball team for the upcoming season.
The Z-Fund will play host to a Zips Express bus trip to the squad's Nov. 16 matchup with Dayton at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio. The turn-around day trip to watch Akron take on the defending National Invitation Tournament champion Flyers will cost $50 per person and include roundtrip transportation, one game ticket in the UA cheering section, refreshments on the bus and a pre-game dinner at a Dayton-area restaurant. For further information and to reserve your seat on the Zips Express, please contact Sarah Vojtek in the Z-Fund office at (330) 972-2039 or via E-mail.
The second package is designed for those interested in following the Zips to Las Vegas, Nev., to watch them compete in the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic, which will be held at South Point Hotel Casino and Spa on Dec. 21-23. The package costs $641 per person and includes roundtrip airfare from Cleveland to Las Vegas (leaving on Dec. 20 and returning on Dec. 23), three nights of accommodations at South Point Hotel Casino and Spa (Dec. 20, 21, 22), one ticket to all three of UA's games (Dec. 21 versus UALR, Dec. 22 versus Stetson and Dec. 23 versus Miami (Fla.)) and roundtrip airport/hotel transfers. For further information regarding the Las Vegas travel package, please contact the UA Alumni Association at (330) 972-7270.
Last season, Akron posted a 24-11 record (12-6 Mid-American Conference), made its fourth-straight appearance in the MAC Tournament championship game and third-consecutive visit to the postseason - playing host to a home game versus Green Bay in the College Basketball Invitational in March. The Zips have advanced to the postseason in three straight and four of the last five seasons, participating in the NCAA Tournament in 2009, the NIT in 2006 and 2008, and last season's CBI. UA has won at least 23 games in each of the last five seasons, and has posted at least 24 victories in three of the last four years.
