Men's Basketball Signs Three to 2010-11 Class
November 11 | Men's Basketball
- University of Akron head men's basketball coach Keith Dambrot announced on Wednesday that Josh Egner, Dakotah Euton and Michael Green have each signed a national letter of intent to play at the school starting in the 2010-11 season. All three are currently in their senior season of high school.
"We are excited about these three additions to our basketball family," Dambrot said. "This class fits into our recruiting philosophy of bringing in high character people and high school players from winning programs who are also good students."
Egner, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward from Massillon, Ohio, attends Jackson High School. He averaged 14 points and nine rebounds as a junior last season, when he earned honorable mention all-state, first-team all-league and first-team all-district accolades.
"Josh is a tremendous athlete," Dambrot said. "He will be one of the best runners and jumpers our program has had. He will help our transition game and brings a hardnosed attitude to the court."
Euton, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward from Georgetown, Ky., attends Scott County High School. As a junior in 2008-09, he earned all-state honors and averaged 15 points and nine rebounds. He also converted 83 percent of his free throws and 40 percent of his 3-pointers last season, helping him land a spot on the 11th Region All-Tournament Team and 42nd District All-Tournament Team. He was also the 42nd District tournament MVP and was named to the Toyota Classic All-Tournament Team - an event which features many of the top programs in the region.
"Dakotah is a big, strong, skilled player, with great hands and a soft touch around the basket," Dambrot said. "He also shoots the ball well and with effective range."
Green, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward from Dublin, Ohio, attends Dublin Coffman High School. As a junior last season, he averaged 15 points and nine rebounds en route to claiming first-team all-league honors.
"Michael is a good inside-outside type player," Dambrot said. "He can post up and shoot the ball well and will help out in terms of keeping people off of our big guy (current 7-foot freshman center Zeke Marshall)."
Today's signings complete the Zips' 2010-11 recruiting class. Akron opens its regular season on Sunday, playing host to Austin Peay at 2 p.m. ET at Rhodes Arena as part of the Glenn Wilkes Classic.
