Team Notes:
With tonight's win, Akron is now 57-6 at home under
fifth-year head coach Keith Dambrot (4-1 this season). The Zips
have won 48 of their last 53 games at Rhodes Arena (dating back to
an 81-79 victory over Toledo on Feb. 14, 2005).
Akron set a season-high in 3-pointers made (13) and tied
the school record for 3-pointers attempts (36) (versus Tiffin on
Nov. 19, 2006). The previous high for makes this season was 10
against Fairleigh Dickinson (Nov. 29) and the previous season-high
for attempts was 29 in the season opener against Canisus (Nov.
15).
Akron is outscoring its opponents 195-112 in points off of
turnovers this season, after scoring 28 points off North Carolina
A&T's 29 miscues tonight.
UA outrebounded the Aggies 30-26, which gives the Zips a
148-128 combined margin on the boards over their last four
opponents.
The Akron bench outscored N.C. A&T 30-11, led by Brett
McKnight's 13 points (4-of-11 FGs, 1-of-6 3FGs, 4-of-5 FTs).
McKnight logged 26 minutes in his reserve role.
Player Notes:
In the starting lineup for the sixth-straight game, freshman
guard Anthony "Humpty" Hitchens finished the night with
a career-high in points for the fifth-straight outing (10, 12, 15,
17, 23 points, respectively). He finished the contest shooting
7-for-13 from the floor, including a 6-for-8 mark from behind the
arc and 3-for-3 showing from the line, and also added a career-high
four assists in 28 minutes.
Redshirt freshman guard Eric
Coblentz made his first collegiate start (four career games
played), finishing with three points (1-for-3 FGs), a career-high
two assists and one rebound in a career-best 13 minutes.
Senior forward Jimmy Conyers grabbed a game-high-tying six
rebounds (two N.C. A&T players also did so) and made a
season-high three steals (one shy of tying a career best). A
starter for the fourth-straight game, he also scored seven points
(3-of-4 FGs, 1-of-2 3FGs) in a season-high-tying 28 minutes.
Junior guard Darryl Roberts entered the game 17-for-17
from the charity stripe this season, but missed the front-end of a
two-shot trip to the line in the second half. He is 41-of-46 (89.1
percent) from the line for his career.
