GÖTEBORG, Sweden – University of Akron women's golf Frida Fougberg finished her first professional tour event over the weekend with a top-20 finish, finishing tied for 20th place on Sunday at the Delsjö Ladies Open hosted by K. Sjödin & L. Wessberg.
Fougberg climbed as high as seventh place in the event before making the cut on Saturday, just one of two amateurs to play in the final round. She closed the weekend with a three-round score of 15-over 228. The final round saw heavy rain, strong winds, thunder and hail.
Fougberg opened the weekend with an impressive round of 3-over 74 on Friday before carding a round of 6-over 77 on Saturday to earn a spot in Sunday's final round. She closed the event with a second-consecutive round of 77.
The Delsjö Ladies Open is part of the Nordea Tour, the men's and women's professional tour in Sweden. Fougberg is the third Zips' women's golfer to play in a pro event and just the second to do so while a student-athlete. Hanna Ek played in a professional tournament in the summer of 2008 while Katie Jenior has made several pro appearances since graduating in 2012.
