Akron landed five student-athletes on the both the MAC Report Online and Athlon Preseason All-MAC teams. The Zips honored were Almondo Sewell, Bryan Williams, Andre Jones, Chris Kemme, Kevin Grant and Ryan Bain.

The Zips women's basketball recruiting class for 2008-09, its second full class under head coach Jodi Kest, has been ranked 59th in the nation by the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.

Mike Uhle, Kim Lorentz and Collister Fahie, all rising sophomores at the University of Akron, each placed among the top 10 at the 2008 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, held at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
