Akron Softball Plays Host to Western Michigan, Northern Illinois This Weekend
AKRON, Ohio – The Akron softball team will continue the Mid-American Conference portion of its schedule this weekend when it plays host to Western Michigan (doubleheader) on Friday and Northern Illinois on Saturday and Sunday at Lee R. Jackson Softball Field.
The Zips (15-24-1, 1-9 MAC) and the Broncos (19-17, 5-5 MAC) will take the field on Friday at 1 p.m. ET for game one before closing the twin bill with game two at 3 p.m. Akron and NIU (18-24, 6-6 MAC) will face off on Saturday at 2 p.m. before concluding the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Akron enters the series after splitting a doubleheader at Robert Morris on April 17. The Zips defeated RMU 6-0 in game one while falling 8-2 in game two. Brittany Maurer (13-18) pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout in Akron's 6-0 game one win.
Western Michigan enters the doubleheader following a two-game series at IPFW in which the Broncos went 0-2. WMU is led at the plate by Tara Buchanan, who has a .324 batting average with eight home runs and 26 RBIs.
Northern Illinois has lost four of its last six games and will head to Akron following a doubleheader at Ohio in Athens, Ohio, on Friday. Shelby Miller leads the Huskies with a .328 batting average, including eight home runs, seven doubles and 29 RBIs.
Following the NIU series, the Zips will hit the road for their final road trip of the 2012 season when they play at Eastern Michigan on April 27 and at Central Michigan on April 28-29.
