Practice #1 (March 20)

AKRON, Ohio
– The University of Akron football team practiced for two and one half hours in unseasonably warm conditions at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field on Thursday morning, the second workout of spring camp. Same as on Tuesday, the squad dressed in jerseys, shorts, helmets and no pads.

Following practice, first-year head coach Terry Bowden shared some insight.

Today was the second of 15 practices leading up to the annual Spring Game presented by Penn Station on East Exchange Street near campus on Saturday, April 21 at 3 p.m. ET at InfoCision Stadium. The squad will take to the field on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays over the next month.

Akron opens the 2012 regular season on Thursday, Aug. 30 at home versus UCF.

Zips Notebook: Head coach Terry Bowden will throw out the first pitch at tomorrow's UA-Ball State baseball game at Canal Park in downtown Akron. The Mid-American Conference opener between the Zips and Cardinals is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m. ET and admission is free  ... February signee Curtis Black (OL), who attends nearby Kent Roosevelt High School, was at InfoCision Stadium today to watch practice ... former Zips defensive end Shane Shead, who completed his eligibility in 2011, will serve as an undergraduate student assistant while working on completion of his degree.
