AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron football program completed its Class of 2018 with an additional four student-athletes signing National Letters of Intent on Wednesday.
Â
The foursome– RB Abraham Alce (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), OL Landon Forman (Kingfisher, Okla.), OL Devin Jordan (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), and WR Treon Sibley (Akron, Ohio)– joins OL Bryce Petersen (McKinleyville, Calif.), who began classes last month, and 12 signees from the early period (Dec. 20).
Â
This 2018 class features a lot of homegrown talent. Nine student-athletes list their hometowns within the state of Ohio, five from the City of Akron and five within a 20-mile radius of campus.
Â
Additionally, four incoming Zips hail from Florida, two from Pennsylvania, and one each from California and Oklahoma.
Â
"We're excited about our signing class," said head coach Terry Bowden, who enters his seventh season in 2018. "Because this is the first year that we've signed so many (12) in December, there are only four more here in February which was the day everyone signed in the past. We have 16 newcomers. We have nine that count toward our class that were on our roster in the fall; that's 25. As usual, we've made the commitment to make Ohio first. The local talent continues to be the focus of our recruit efforts along with Florida and Pennsylvania. These are the type of student-athletes that will help us to bring home a MAC title."
Â
Five of the signees— DL Eric Bentley (Akron, Ohio), S Reggie Corner, Jr. (Canton, Ohio), DB Rich Hall (Pompano Beach, Fla.), OL Bryce Petersen, and RB Keyondre White (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)– began classes in January.Â
Â
Akron finished the 2017 season with appearances in the MAC Championship game and the Boca Raton Bowl. The Zips made their second FBS bowl appearance in three seasons, a program first, and won the MAC East Division.
Â
UA begins spring drills on March 19. The annual Spring Game is slated for Saturday, April 21, at Noon at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field. Akron opens the 2018 season at Nebraska on Sept. 1.Â
Season ticket plans—which include a ticket to all home games as well as a parking pass— start at only $60 each. For fans wishing to purchase new season tickets for the 2018 season, the Ticket Office is currently taking non-refundable deposits of $25/seat.Â
