MACON, Ga. -- The Akron Zips leave Macon, Ga. after playing to a 1-1 tie against Drexel on the final day of the Black and Orange Challenge due to heavy rain that forced the officials to call the contest in the top of the sixth inning.Â
Due to NCAA rules, the contest reverts back to the previous full inning of play ending in a 1-1 tie after five innings of play.Â
A home run on each side of the scorebook resulted in the 1-1 score after five. In the shortened contest, Drexel recorded a game-high four hits and the Zips tallied a pair of base knocks.Â
For Akron, freshman Kayla Kmett (San Clemente, Calif.) made her third start of the season inside the circle. Kmett pitched 3.1 innings, gave up three hits and one run while striking out a pair. Senior Kooper Vertz (Dilsboro, Ind.) came into the game out of the bullpen in the fourth inning and went on to pitched 1.2 innings and gave up one hit.
