CLEVELAND — The Mid-American Conference announced the 2018 football schedule on Thursday, and the University of Akron football team will make several national television appearances.
Â
Under the guidance of seventh-year head coach Terry Bowden, Akron opens the 2018 season at Nebraska (Sept. 1). Non-conference games include: at home against Morgan State (Sept. 8); at Northwestern (Sept. 15); and at Iowa State (Sept. 22).
Â
The Zips open MAC play at home against Miami (Ohio) on Oct. 6. UA then hits the road for two MAC games, visiting Buffalo (Oct. 13) and Kent State (Oct. 20). The Zips close out October with Central Michigan at home on Oct. 27.
Â
Akron opens November with its only mid-week game, hosting Northern Illinois on Thursday, Nov. 1. The game will be televised by ESPNU or CBS Sports Network.
Â
On Saturday, Nov. 10, the Zips travel to Eastern Michigan. UA returns home for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 17, against Bowling Green. Akron concludes the regular season with a Black Friday game at Ohio on Nov. 23. ESPNU, CBS-SN, or ESPN3 will televise the game.
Â
All home games will be played at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field.
Â
An updated release of the MAC 2018 football schedule will be released in June with kickoff times and a television schedule for the first three weeks of the regular season and midweek games during late October and November. All other game kickoff times and television will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled game.
Â
The 22nd Marathon MAC Football Championship game will be played at Ford Field in Detroit at a date to be determined. Â
The 2018 schedule will be challenging as eight opponents were bowl eligible last fall:Â Northwestern (Music City), Iowa State (Liberty), Buffalo, Central Michigan (Famous Idaho Potato), Ohio (Bahamas), Northern Illinois (Quick Lane), Toledo (Dollar General), and Western Michigan.
Â
In 2017, Akron (7-7 overall, 6-2 MAC) participated in the MAC Championship game and the Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl. The MAC East champion Zips went 5-1 at home at InfoCision Stadium, the most wins at home in a season since the stadium opened in 2009. Attendance at all six of UA's home games ranked among the Top 15 in the stadium's best-attended contests.
Â
Akron begins spring drills on March 19. The annual Spring Game is slated for Saturday, April 21, at Noon at InfoCision Stadium - Summa Field.
Season ticket plans—which include a ticket to all home games as well as a parking pass— start at only $60 each. For fans wishing to purchase new season tickets for the 2018 season, the Ticket Office is currently taking non-refundable deposits of $25/seat. As a season ticket holder, fans have the ability to purchase tickets for road games at Nebraska, Northwestern, and Iowa State.
