Perry Highlight’s Zips’ Efforts in Annual Dual Meet with Kent State

KENT, Ohio – University of Akron junior Dara Perry (Akron, Ohio) highlighted the Zips' efforts at the annual Akron-Kent State dual meet on Friday, Jan. 19, at the Kent State Field House winning the women's 60-meter hurdles in a school-record time of 8.42, breaking her own school mark by three one-hundredths of a second.
The Golden Flashes won the men's meet by a score of 83-67, while besting the Zips' women, 88-62. Akron's list of competitors was limited in the meet as a number of league championship contenders were held out of the meet due to illness and/or injury.
Senior Garrett Crichlow (Twinsburg, Ohio) took the men's mile overtaking Grzegorz Kunc down the final straightaway to cross the line first in 4:17.11, before later running down his competition over the final 30 meters to win the men's 3,000 meters in a career-best time of 8:35.46. Sophomore Nick Stricklen (Lexington, Ohio) placed third in men's mile in 4:21.39.
Senior Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio) took top honors in the women's long jump soaring 19-11.75 (6.09m).
Junior Matt Ludwig (Chardon, Ohio) eclipsed 18-2.50 (5.55m) to secure the victory in the men's pole vault. He was followed by redshirt sophomore Tyler Fraker (Delta, Ohio) and junior Cole Wigal (Belpre, Ohio), who registered marks of 16-6.75 (5.05m) and 16-0.75 (4.90m), respectively.
Taking home the women's pole vault with a clearance of 14-00 (4.27m) was sophomore Lucy Bryan (Bristol, England).
Freshman Noah Williams (Hilton, N.Y.) won the men's 400 meters in a personal-best time of 48.07, while senior Taron Slone (Columbus, Ohio) finished second in 48.82.
Junior Cody Stine (Shelby, Ohio) captured the men's high jump with a clearance of 7-0.25 (2.14m).
Senior Patricia Ortega (Logrono, Spain) came across the line second in the women's 60-meter hurdles in 8.75, before placing second in the high jump with a personal-best mark of 5-5.75 (1.67m).
In the women's 60 meters, senior Stephanie Hale (Cleveland, Ohio) was second in 7.76, before later finishing second in the 200 meters with a time of 25.36.
Placing second and third in the men's 60-meter hurdles with personal-best times of 8.25 and 8.33 was redshirt freshman Patrick Kimball (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and sophomore Dylan Hochbein (Sarver, Pa.).
In the women's 800 meters, the Zips garnered second- and third-place performances from sophomores Haley Hess (Curtice, Ohio) and Victoria Stachowski (Waterford, Mich.) with personal-best times of 2:17.76 and 2:18.92.
Junior Olivia Snyder (Navarre, Ohio) and redshirt freshman Emily Taylor (Mount Perry, Ohio) finished second and third in the women's weight throw with marks of 56-10 (17.32m) and 52-3.25 (15.93m), respectively.
Junior Abigale Wilson (Carrollton, Ohio) and Snyder placed second and third in the women's shot put with marks of 46-1.50 (14.06m) and 46-1.25 (14.05m).
Redshirt junior Tristan Williams (Akron, Ohio) placed second in the men's 800 meters with a personal-best time of 1:56.46.
Senior Jamir Coleman (Lima, Ohio) earned a pair of third-place showings in the men's 200 meters with a time of 22.07 and in the long jump with a mark of 23-1.75 (7.05m).
Freshman Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio) finished second in the women's 3,000 meters with a career-best time of 10:33.56.
In the men's weight throw, redshirt junior Maurice Harris (Toledo, Ohio) and senior Phil Jagers (Solon, Ohio) finished second and third with marks of 62-7.25 (19.08m) and 60-6.50 (18.45m).
Taking third in the men's triple jump with a jump of 47-0.25 (14.33) was sophomore Marcques Gibbs (Darby, Pa.).
The women's 4x400 relay of Siefring, Hale, Ortega and sophomore Bailey Lack (Brunswick, Ohio) crossed the line second in 3:52.72. Akron's men's 4x400 relay of redshirt junior Milton Greer (Copley, Ohio), Ludwig, redshirt freshman Matt Blamble (Wadsworth, Ohio) and Slone also finished second in 3:20.06.
The Zips return to action traveling to University Park, Pa., to compete at the Penn State National next weekend, Jan. 26-27.
