Kannapolis, N.C. – The Akron Zips men's golf team enters the final round of The Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate in 12th place after posting a 583 (+15) team total on Saturday.
The Zips recorded rounds of 291 (+7) and 292 (+8) at The Club at Irish Creek, a par 71 course that spans 7,099 yards, while being led by senior Zach Gollwitzer (Ballwin, Mo.).
Gollwitzer fired a 1-under par 70 second-round score after a 2-over 73 first-round performance. He is currently tied for 34th overall with a 1-over 143 two-round effort. Gollwitzer recorded 27 pars, five bogeys, and four birdies in 36 holes of play.
Sophomore Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio) followed in scoring for the Zips. He fired an even-par 71 first round and added a 74 (+3) for a 3-over 145 36-hole total. Appleby currently ranks tied for 48th overall.
Rounding out the team scoring was junior George Baylis (Ascot, England) with a 150 (+8) tournament performance.
Kennesaw State currently leads the team scoring with an 11-under 557 two-round total, while Florida State's Josh Lee and Bennett Baker rank No. 1 and 2 on the leaderboard with 135 (-7) and 136 (-6) scores, respectively.
Sunday's final 18-hole round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Akron is scheduled to begin on holes No. 10-12. Fans can follow the action via GolfStat Live Scoring.
