AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron senior Taron Slone (Columbus, Ohio) ran the fourth-fastest time in indoor program history winning the men's 200 meters in a career-best time of 21.34 to direct the efforts for Akron at the Zips Invitational on Friday, Feb. 16, at the Stile Athletics Field House.
Junior Matt Ludwig (Chardon, Ohio) surpassed 18-3.75 (5.58m) to triumph in the men's pole vault to remain unbeaten against collegiate competition. Garnering a second-place finish with a mark of 16-6 (5.03m) was redshirt sophomore Tyler Fraker (Delta, Ohio).
Sophomore Lucy Bryan (Bristol, England) eclipsed 14-0.75 (4.29m) to win the women's pole vault.
Freshman Lindsey Scarton (Berea, Ohio) opened the evening for the Zips winning the women's mile crossing the line in 5:03.53.
Senior Jamir Coleman (Lima, Ohio) captured the men's long jump with a mark of 23-2.50 (7.07m), while redshirt sophomore Malik Hudson (Cleveland, Ohio) placed second with a jump of 22-5.75 (6.85m).
Senior Ariadna Ramos Gandia (Barcelona, Spain) finished first in the women's long jump with a leap of 18-7 (5.66m).
Registering a career-best time of 8.19 to place second in the men's 60-meter hurdles was redshirt sophomore Preston Fillman (Hanoverton, Ohio).
Junior Olivia Snyder (Navarre, Ohio) captured the women's weight throw with a season-best mark of 58-0 (17.68m), while junior Abigale Wilson (Carrollton, Ohio) placed second in the women's shot put with a mark of 50-0.50 (15.25m).
Redshirt junior Milton Greer (Copley, Ohio) ran a personal-best time of 49.08 en route to finishing second in the men's 400 meters, while sophomore Bailey Lack (Brunswick, Ohio) placed second in the women's 400 meters in 57.67.
Running a person-best time of 2:13.08 to take the women's 800 meters was sophomore Haley Hess (Curtice, Ohio), while posting a second-place showing in the men's 800 meters was senior Nick Winkler (Wadsworth, Ohio), who crossed the line in 1:53.28.
Senior Phil Jagers (Solon, Ohio) and redshirt junior Maurice Harris (Toledo, Ohio) placed first and second, respectively, in the men's weight throw with marks of 63-4 (19.30m) and 57-6 (17.53m). Harris also won the men's shot put with a mark of 55-8.25 (16.97m).
Redshirt junior Elizabeth Mosier (Austintown, Ohio) claimed the women's 3,000 meters in 10:34.04, while senior Garrett Crichlow (Twinsburg, Ohio) registered a second-place performance in the men's 3,000 meters in a time of 8:42.70.
Akron will look to defend its Mid-American Conference men's and women's indoor titles when the Zips travel to Bowling Green, Ohio, for the MAC Championships next weekend, Feb. 23-24.
