AKRON, Ohio - The 11th-ranked University of Akron rifle team will vie for a team championship this weekend as the Zips battle for the Great America Rifle Conference Championships hosted by West Virginia this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25-26 in Morgantown, W.Va.
The smallbore rifle competition will take place on Saturday, Feb. 25, starting at 9 a.m., before the championships conclude with the air rifle race on Sunday, Feb. 26, at the same time.
The championship field includes; No. 2 West Virginia, No. 5 Kentucky, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 9 Navy, No. 10 Memphis, No. 11 Akron, No. 13 North Carolina State and No. 15 Army.

Junior Gavin Perkowski (Bolivar, Ohio) directs Akron's performances on the campaign with a team-best 1174.64 combined average this season. Perkowski also headlines the Zips' efforts in the smallbore (583.29), while sophomore Alexis Kirk (Clarence Center, N.Y.) leads the squad's marks in the air rifle (592.21).

Scheduled to compete for Akron is freshman Andrew Duross (Marlborough, Mass.), sophomore Rachel Engels (Meridian, Idaho), freshman Jordyn Ewine (Buffalo, N.D.), senior Andre Gross (Webster, N.Y.), Kirk, freshman Rachael Paddock (Perry, N.Y.), senior Katie Paltz (Edison, N.J.), Perkowski, senior Jakob Rankin (Granbury, Texas), junior Erin Schnupp (Gorham, Maine), senior Brendan Seitz (Milford, Mass.), junior Samantha Shultz (Fort Wayne, Ind.), freshman Natalia Siek (Flemington, N.J.) and sophomore Cory Stroupe (Brasstown, N.C.).
