AKRON, Ohio – The Akron women's tennis team will host its first home matches of the spring season on Saturday, Feb. 11 at LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow. The Zips will battle Oakland at 10 a.m. and Morgan State at 4 p.m.
Akron currently sits at 3-2 on the season after sweeping a pair of matches against Niagara and St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Feb. 4.
Oakland is 0-2 on the year and Morgan State is 0-5.
"I'm looking forward to having the entire team back and ready to play. With two matches, we will need everyone ready to step up and compete," head coach Brandon Padgett said. "This is another excellent opportunity for our team to continue to work on improving in key areas as we prepare for the MAC season."
In the 7-0 wins against Niagara and St. Bonaventure, junior Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany) won both of her singles matches at the No. 1 singles spot and teamed up with sophomore Carla Flores (Coahuila, Mexico) to notch a pair of victories in doubles action.
Geier is now 4-1 in singles matches this spring and 4-0 in doubles play.
Seeing her first action of the spring, Flores put together a pair of victories at the No. 6 singles spot including a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Niagara's Jasmin Vargas.
The duo of junior Carli Knezevich (Lake Travis, Tex.) and senior Karalina Maksimava (Mogilev, Belarus) posted a pair of 6-3 wins in No. 1 doubles action to help the Zips clinch the doubles point in both matches.
