Women’s Tennis Closes Fall Season at YSU Invitational

AKRON, Ohio — The University of Akron women's tennis team will conclude its fall schedule at the Youngstown State Invitational on Nov. 4-6 at the Boardman Tennis Center.

Four Zips are set to participate in this weekend's action including freshman Rita Pedroso, senior captain Shannon Newnes, sophomore Carla Flores, and junior Waverly Wituski.

UA is one of seven teams playing at the event, joining Niagara, Oakland, Olivet Nazarene, Toledo, UNOH (Northwestern Ohio) and YSU.

"This will be our final competition for the fall, so I am excited to see how we finish up as a team," said head coach Brandon Padgett. "It has been a long and difficult fall, but our level of play has been exceptional up to this point. We want to finish strong and head into the off season on a high note."

The Zips will resume action on Jan. 14 at Northwestern at 11 a.m. while the squad's MAC schedule starts on March 24 on the road against Toledo (1 p.m.).

Schedule of Play

Friday, Nov. 4: 1 round of doubles, 1 round of singles (matches start at 1 p.m., warmup at 12 p.m.)

Saturday, Nov. 5: 2 round of doubles, 2 round of singles (matches start at 9 a.m., warmup at 8 a.m.)

Sunday, Nov. 6: 1 round of doubles, 1 round of singles (matches start at 8:30 a.m., warmup at 7:30 a.m.)
