Kannapolis, N.C. – The Akron Zips men's golf team travels to Kannapolis, N.C. for The Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate on Saturday and Sunday, April 8-9. The 54-hole event will be played at The Club at Irish Creek, a par 71 course that spans 7,099 yards.

"The competition at Irish Creek is always very good, and this week is no different," head coach David Trainor said. "This event is one we have played before, and we look forward to it every year."

The 16-team field includes host Davidson, Akron, Appalachian State, Charlotte, Dartmouth, Dayton, Florida State, James Madison, Kennesaw State, North Carolina, North Florida, Ohio State, South Carolina, UNC Greensboro, VCU, and Wake Forest.

First and second round action is scheduled for Saturday, beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. ET and continuous play for 36 holes. Akron will start on holes 13-15. Sunday's final 18-hole round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Fans can follow the action via GolfStat Live Scoring.

The Zips' starting five includes junior George Baylis (Ascot, England), sophomore Elliott Grayson (Shelby, N.C.), senior Yann Pfeiffer (Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, France), senior Zach Gollwitzer (Ballwin, Mo.), and sophomore Jacob Appleby (North Canton, Ohio).

Last year at The Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate, the Zips climbed four spots on the leaderboard during the final round. Akron finished eighth overall with four performances in the low 70's, finishing the 54-hole event at the par 71 The Club at Irish Creek with an 885 (+33) team total.

Baylis was Akron's low scorer for the tournament, finishing 29th overall with a 220 (+7) tournament total. Baylis fired rounds of 72 (+1), 75 (+4), and 73 (+2) while registering 38 pars, 10 bogeys, five birdies and a double-bogey.

Pfeiffer followed with a 35th place finish at 223 (+10) strokes, scoring 1-over in his final 36-holes. Pfeiffer opened the tournament with an 80 (+9) effort and carded an even-par 71 and 72 (+1) scores on 21 pars, eight birdies, six bogeys and a triple-bogey. 

Finishing one stroke behind Pfeiffer and 40th overall was Grayson. He used rounds of 77 (+6), 75 (+4) and 72 (+1) for a 224 (+11) 54-hole tally. Grayson recorded 34 pars, 11 bogeys, six birdies, and three double-bogeys.
